What Is the Difference Between Sporting Clays and Skeet Shooting?

The biggest difference between sporting clays and skeet shooting lies in how the targets are presented and shot.

With skeet shooting, the targets will always be presented on the same trajectory and are replicated. In sporting clays, however, targets can be thrown at different angles, heights, and speeds.

#1 Sporting Clays Shooting

Sporting clays shooting is designed to replicate real life hunting scenarios as close as possible.

Shooters will follow a course, shooting different size targets that are presented over 10 to 15 stations.

These targets can be thrown in singles, pairs, or even triples. An entire round of sporting clays will usually see the shooter having to perform around 100 shots.

#2 Skeet Shooting

Skeet shooting differs from sporting clays in the fact that every target will be the same. Although they are presented relatively close and at high speeds, their presentation is the same.

This is why competitive shooters will hone their shooting technique based on muscle memory and from certain positions.

Achieving success in skeet shooting is largely due to plenty of practice on the field and repetitions.
