What Is the Difference Between Trap and Skeet Shooting?

The main difference between trap and skeet shooting is the way the target moves in relation to the shooter.

In trap shooting, the clay targets are launched and shot as they move away from the shooter. In skeet shooting, however, the clay targets that are launched will cross each other in front of the shooter.

#1 Trap Shooting

While trap shooting was originally designed to be practice for bird hunting, it is more seen as a competition today.

The targets are launched in the air at different angles by trap shooting machines from the trap houses, situated on the premises of a trap shooting range, but at an angle that moves away from the shooter at one of the many different shooting positions.

Shooters will get a total of 25 shots per round. To learn more about this shooting type, familiarize yourself with trap shooting rules and regulations.

#2 Skeet Shooting

Skeet shooting was made to more closely resemble bird hunting. The goal is to hit two different targets that are crossing one another when launched.

Two target machines are placed 40 meters apart, and both targets that are launched will get to around a height of 15 feet when they reach the center of the shooting field.

Unlike trap shooting, this different angle allows for a more realistic practice when it comes to simulating how birds fly.
