Trap Shooting Lesson Types

Have you ever wondered how to learn about trap shooting? In this article, we will cover everything that you need to know about taking trap shooting lessons. You will learn about the different classes, training, and schools that you can attend in order to fully learn and practice trap shooting. Learning trap shooting does not have to be difficult when you have a good instructor helping you out, so let’s get started!

#1 American Shooting Lessons

Because American trap shooting is one of the most prevalent types of trap shooting competitions, it is also the easiest to find training for. Many clubs and organizations, both on the local and national level, specialize in American trap shooting and as such will put on regular classes and courses. The ATA, which stands for the Amateur Trapshooting Association, serves as the governing body for American trap shooting and has a large database of the different clubs and shoots on their website. In addition to seeking out the different courses and classes offered by organizations, private instructors can also be hired for a more personal touch. These private lessons can be a great option for those who might be intimidated by large groups watching them shoot or handle a firearm when just getting started.

#2 Olympic Trap Shooting Lessons

Olympic trap shooting is a little more specialized than American trap shooting and not quite as popular, so it is a little more difficult to receive training for. In fact, there are only 47 gun clubs in the United States that offer Olympic Games of International Trap (or International Bunker) and International Skeet. If you really want to learn and train in a real setup and field, you will need to have one of these near to you. After finding the right trap shooting range to practice at, receiving training is very similar to any other form of trap shooting. Various clubs and organizations offer courses and classes that can get you started, or give you other people to train with. Personal instructors can also be hired for specialized lessons.

#3 Double Trap Shooting Lessons

Because double trap is now a part of the Olympic games and is very similar to American trap shooting, it can be easy to receive lessons for this type of trap shooting. Many facilities that provide American trap shooting will also be able to accommodate double trap shooting as well. Joining a gun club or range can be a great way to get your foot in the door for training, and instructors can usually be hired for you or for groups of people. Lessons will largely involve learning the basics of trap shooting, including smaller details such as where to aim, proper form, and strategies to help hit two targets quickly.

#4 Wobble Trap Shooting Lessons

While not sanctioned by organizations like the ATA, wobble trap shooting is quickly becoming more and more popular. The biggest difference is the extreme target flight paths due to the trap oscillating and moving, so more and more shooting ranges are offering this type of trap shooting for their customers. Many shooters who enjoy wobble trap also enjoy bird hunting, as they feel it gives them the best practice. As with American trap or double trap, lessons will generally begin with the bare basics on how to properly hold and shoot a shotgun, aiming strategies, and how to better hit the sporadic targets. While classes are more rare for wobble trap, you can generally find plenty of instructors to hire.
